THE BEGINNING
A craft perfected over a century.
In the narrow, cobblestoned lanes of Namak Mandi — Peshawar's oldest marketplace — the tap of a cobbler's hammer has echoed for over a hundred years. It was here that the Peshawari Chappal was born: not as a fashion statement, but as a necessity forged by the rugged terrain of the Khyber hills.
PakhtoonSteps was founded with one conviction — that this centuries-old craft deserves to be worn by the world. We work directly with the same families who have been shaping leather in Namak Mandi for generations, preserving every technique that machines cannot replicate.

HOW WE WORK
No shortcuts. Ever.
Each pair passes through the hands of a single master artisan from start to finish. From selecting the hide to the final burnish, every step is deliberate, unhurried, and done exactly as it has been for generations.
Sourcing the Hide
We source only full-grain cowhide — the thickest, most durable layer of the hide. Vegetable tanning takes up to six weeks using bark extracts and natural minerals.
Hand-Cutting the Straps
Every strap is cut by hand using a single blade. No two pairs are identical — each carries the subtle mark of the craftsman's hand.
The Double Stitch
Heavy waxed thread is double-stitched through both the upper and the sole. This joint has held for decades on mountain paths — it will not fail on city streets.
Copper Thread & Burnish
Copper wire embedded in the sole is a Pashtun tradition believed to ground the wearer. The final burnish brings out the leather's natural lustre.

THE MATERIAL
Leather that lives with you.
We refuse to use chrome-tanned leather. The ancient process of vegetable tanning — using tree bark, pomegranate rind, and mineral salts — takes weeks and produces a hide of unmatched character and durability.
Unlike factory leather, ours breathes. It moulds to the shape of your foot over time, developing a patina that is uniquely yours. A pair of PakhtoonSteps does not wear out — it wears in.
